One of my favourite trees in central London spends most of the year hiding in plain sight except when it bursts into head-turning flower. Here it is in full bloom, a Golden Rain Tree or Koelreuteria paniculata, growing in the garden of the historic Charterhouse. You'll need to walk along Clerkenwell Road - or take a bus - to see it. Most of the year it's rather overshadowed by the huge London planes that tower above it, but that all changes in July.
